STEVEN J. LANE was Managing Partner of the law firm of Herman, Herman & Katz in New Orleans from 2002-2016, and remains of counsel there. He now serves as a Special Master appointed by judges and attorneys to preside over family law cases. He received his B.A. from the University of New York at Buffalo in 1977 and his J.D. from Loyola University School of Law in 1980. He has been listed in Best Lawyers in America each year since 2005. He received the New Orleans CityBusiness Leadership in Law award for 2005-2008, and was inducted into the New Orleans CityBusiness Law Hall of Fame in 2009. He was selected as Best Lawyers “New Orleans Family Lawyer of the Year” in 2009, 2015, 2017, and 2021. He is the only attorney in Louisiana to receive the award four times. He was selected for inclusion in Law Dragon magazine’s Top 500 Leading Lawyers in America in each year from 2009 through 2017, and was named a Law Dragon Legend in 2016. He has been listed in Louisiana Super Lawyers magazine from 2007-2021 and New Orleans Magazine’s Top Family Lawyers from 2012-2020. In addition to practicing in the field of family and domestic litigation, he has also successfully handled a broad range of cases, including class actions, personal injury, products liability, and commercial litigation.
